Keir Starmer is under intense pressure after saying it was “staggering” that he was not told Peter Mandelson had failed initial security vetting before becoming UK ambassador to the US. Mandelson was later sacked over his links to Jeffrey Epstein, and opposition parties now say Starmer’s explanation does not add up. Kemi Badenoch said the Prime Minister’s position is no longer credible and urged Labour MPs to remove him, while the Lib Dems, SNP, Greens and Reform also called for him to go. Starmer insists he did not mislead Parliament and says he is furious no minister was told about the vetting warning.
