A Cataclysmic Mud Tsunami Just Struck Nepal. 10,000+ Feared Dead...

A catastrophic glacial landslide and flash flood has struck Nepal and China when a huge chunk of a glacier apparently broke off, plunged ~4000 ft down, smashed into a glacial dam and broke it up, sending a debris loaded flash flood downstream into Nepal. Hundreds of people are currently reported missing, including 341 foreign nationals (47 from the USA), but these are initial estimates and based on the video footage we have this appears to be a mass casualty event with numbers reaching into the thousands. US and British media are reporting that Russians are withdrawing increasing amounts of cash from the country's banks amid fears that the Kremlin could soon seize deposits to fund its war in Ukraine. At the start of Moscow's full-scale invasion, Russians already moved in large numbers to withdraw their private savings. Now, however, recent data from Russia's Central Bank show that citizens are withdrawing rubles in record amounts. Media reports suggest that the Kremlin's difficulties in dealing with Ukraine's intensifying drone attacks could be partly to blame, as more and more Russians feel the direct effects of the war. Just this week, Russian media reported that more than 70 percent of service stations nationwide had run out of fuel.

Spain has declared a national emergency, as wildfires forced the removal to safety of tens of thousands of people near Madrid. A summer of extreme heat and dryness means the country is struggling to tackle several severe blazes. Fires are also burning out of control in France. One Canadian doctor is urging the international stars in Sunday's World Cup final to wear medical masks. That's to protect themselves against the "toxic soup" of wildfire smoke that covers much of the US Midwest to the Northeast right now. Tiny particles of pollution can travel deep into the lungs and enter the bloodstream, damaging the organs. Scientists say exposure can trigger asthma attacks and worsen heart and respiratory conditions. Concerns about the hazardous air quality are not limited to players on the pitch. There are thousands of fans arriving from around the world and there is also the wider public to think about, especially the vulnerable. US President Donald Trump blames Canada for the smog - and has threatened new tariffs - although the blazes are also burning in parts of the US. DW's Ben Fajzullin speaks to Courtney Howard.

Spain is in revolt as Socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez allows 1.3 million migrants to apply for legalised status in Spain. This week saw the Supreme Court rule that applications cannot be denied on the basis of the migrants having a criminal record.

Virginia Martinez has introduced a motion to the Murcia parliament declaring the Prime Minister 'persona non grata', calling him a 'danger to the country', after multiple members of his inner circle, including his brother, were jailed for corruption-related charges.

The Prime Minister's wife has been indicted and is barred from leaving the country.

FURY as Netflix Users Could Be 'FORCED to FUND The BBC!'

Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime customers could be forced to contribute towards the BBC licence fee under proposals being considered by Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy. One option would introduce a smaller charge for households using streaming services, even if they never watch BBC programmes or live television. Critics have branded the idea an attempt to prop up an outdated system as hundreds of thousands of households abandon the £180 annual licence. The plans remain under discussion and have not yet been approved.
